A cellular task force to safeguard genome stability
A study, conducted by Dana Branzei, has uncovered a complex network of regulatory processes that safeguards genome stability and protects against cancer-causing DNA damage. [english language] - August 2008
When stability runs through your veins
A key mechanism that ensures that blood vessel cells live in harmony, and as a consequence, stabilises the vascular system, has recently been discovered in Italy. This discovery has important implications for the treatment of cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke and inflammatory diseases: the research was published in Nature Cell Biology. [english language] - 10 July 2008
The molecular switch that regulates metastatic invasion
A study conducted by IFOM scientists opens the way for the development of new drugs against metastatic cancers: the discovery was published today in the journal Cell. [italian language] - 8 May 2008
The Regional Centre for the Development of Scientific and Technological Culture was established today at the Lombardy Regional Office of Education.
The multisite Centre (which IFOM forms part of) aims to encourage youngsters to pursue carriers in science and technology, to develop their science/technology skills, to renew teaching practices and to assist in teacher career development. [italian language] - March 2008
In women with breast cancer predisposing mutations, specific genetic markers enhance the risk of developing the disease
IFOM, IEO and INT were among the participants in an international study that involved 10.000 women. [italian language] - January 2, 2008
A new prognostic biomarker for breast cancer.
Scientists of the IFOM-IEO Campus have discovered a new "molecular circuitry" that regulates the protein p53. The finding, published today in the journal Nature, could find immediate clinical application as a prognostic biomarker. The therapeutic potential of this discovery is currently being investigated.[english language]
